A welcome from our CEO
Thank you for your interest in joining Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, at what is an exciting time for us.
Our vision is to be a leading council, recognised as such by our residents, peers and partners, and we truly want to make a difference for our communities and residents.
We’re currently hard at work finalising our new five year plan – Reigate & Banstead 2025 – which clearly sets out our ambitious plans for our borough, and the new positions we are recruiting to will be pivotal in helping us deliver it.
Whilst we, like all councils, are facing challenging times financially, we’re taking the opportunity to develop and innovate. With the support of both Members and Officers, we are encouraging entrepreneurialism in order to become a more commercially adept organisation. We want to expand and improve our services, not cut them, and are making progress in finding new and innovative ways to generate the income required to support those ambitions.
Our approach includes selling to other organisations and seeking out new income generating opportunities. Some of our more recent innovations include;
- setting up a ground-breaking health and social care initiative, known as Pathway for Care,
- working on behalf of other organisations – including local authorities, housing associations and charities – to detect fraud and recover money owed,
- maximising our property and assets, including direct involvement in major development schemes on our own sites, worth £750 million. To help us respond to opportunities in the fast-paced, competitive property market, we have also formed a wholly-owned property and development company.
Our efforts have already been recognised nationally, including by the council being commended at the MJ Awards for Commercialism in the Property Sector (2017), and shortlisted for the MJ Innovation in Finance Award (2015) and LGC Entrepreneurial Council Award (2016). In 2016 we were the only district and borough council to be shortlisted for the MJ Local Authority of the Year Award.
To get a feel for what it’s like to work here, let our Director of People Services – Mari Roberts-Wood show you around.
I’m extremely proud of the work we do. If you believe you could be part of our exciting future and help us do the best for our residents, we would very much like to hear from you.
